Rasira Rwanda Women Organization — a women-led, non-profit grassroots organization established in 2023, working across Rwanda to empower women and girls through health, education, research, and community solidarity.
RRWO was founded in 2023 by women and girls from rural Rwanda who recognized the critical gaps in health services, psychosocial support, and economic opportunities available to women in their communities. Driven by personal experience and a shared commitment to change, the founders came together to create a platform where women could support one another and collectively address the barriers they faced.
From its earliest days, RRWO has operated on the principle that the women most affected by a problem are best positioned to solve it. The organization started with grassroots community outreach — going door to door in rural communities to identify vulnerable women and connect them with available resources. Over time, RRWO expanded its scope to include structured health programs, research initiatives, and partnerships with health facilities across Rwanda.
Today, RRWO stands as a growing grassroots force for women's health and empowerment in Rwanda, with a clear programmatic framework, an active network of community health partners, and a vision to reach every woman and girl across the country.

A nation where no woman or girl is left behind — free from disease, malnutrition, and inequality.
RRWO is based in Burera District, Northern Province of Rwanda and operates across Rwanda — reaching women and girls in both rural and urban communities through health programs, outreach campaigns, and research initiatives.
Six integrated programs designed to address the full spectrum of health, psychosocial, and rights-based needs of women and girls across Rwanda — all contributing to SDG 2, 3, and 5.
RRWO supports mothers and young girls through targeted health education, maternal care access, and preventive health services. This program addresses gaps in antenatal and postnatal care, adolescent health, and family planning, ensuring women and girls have the information and access they need at every stage of life.
Through community outreach and partnerships with local health facilities, RRWO raises awareness about cervical and breast cancer and facilitates access to early screening services for women in rural communities. Early detection is a cornerstone of this program, as late-stage diagnosis remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality among women in Rwanda.
RRWO delivers community-based nutrition education that equips women and families with the knowledge to make informed dietary choices. The program addresses widespread malnutrition among rural women and girls, highlights the link between poor nutrition and preventable diseases — including eye disability — and promotes wellness practices that support long-term health.
RRWO organizes and participates in community health campaigns that bring essential health services — including NCD screening, eye tests, and health education — directly to communities. These campaigns are designed to overcome access barriers faced by rural women and to build a culture of preventive health care across Rwanda.
RRWO conducts evidence-based research on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and the impact of malnutrition on eye disability among rural girls and women. This research informs RRWO's own programming and contributes to the broader knowledge base on women's health in Rwanda, supporting advocacy and policy dialogue.
Recognizing that physical health cannot be separated from mental well-being, RRWO provides safe spaces, peer support groups, and referrals to counseling services for women who have experienced trauma, violence, or emotional distress. This program creates environments where women can speak freely, heal, and rebuild their confidence and resilience.
We are actively seeking partners, volunteers, and donors to expand our reach across Rwanda.
